The Town of Cornersville swore in a new police officer at the meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen last week. "I was tired of being an SRO," said Eli Stuard, formerly a Marshall County Sheriff's Department Deputy, about why he took the job in Cornersville. The Child Development Center playground was improved recently in conjunction with a Lewisburg boy scout's project for his promotion to the rank of eagle. Since it was installed, there were uneven exercise bars at the playground that have been deemed inappropriate for child safety, so Boy Scout Todd Childress, 17, of Childress Road, accepted the challenge of removing them and improving the playground in other ways... more

The State of Tennessee has notified Waste Management Inc. that Cedar Ridge Landfill is in violation of state law because it's polluting a spring, water flowing from it, and the creek further downstream. Violations, according to a letter from the Department of Environment and Conservation, can result in civil penalties that range from $100 per day to $10,000 per day depending on the part of state code that applies... more

As a daughter continues to ask questions about her father's shooting death in his neighbor's apartment, details are emerging from the Lewisburg Police investigation into what's been called a home invasion. Michael Jett, 53, of Pear Tree Apartments, was shot during the Memorial Day weekend by Jeffery Sturgill, 51, who also lives at the apartment house.
