In the month since residents around Poteet Road asked who would be cleaning creek water downstream from Vickery Spring, Waste Management Inc. has installed a pump and pipes that carry the water to a city sewer. Sentences were passed last week on two Marshall County residents who pleaded guilty to charges against them, and also on a man who had a jury trial. Brittany L. West, 21, of 5th Avenue North pleaded guilty to prescription fraud. West confessed to Lewisburg Police Department Officer Denise Savage that she had modified a prescription on April 14 this year, changing the number of hydrocodone pills on it from four to 41. ... more
On advice from their attorney, Marshall County commissioners on Monday decided to refrain from electing two new members of the Ethics Committee which this month has received its third complaint. Strict adherence to the state public meetings law calling for adequate public notice was apparently not followed and so County Attorney Ginger Shofner said, "I would recommend that you put your notice in the paper. U.S. Rep Bart Gordon is endorsing continued funding for the expansion of the Lewisburg Greenway, a pedestrian park that would be extended from downtown to the Columbia State Community College campus here. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man charged in the deaths of six people in Tennessee and Alabama has been transferred to state custody and is being held in a maximum security prison in Nashville, officials said. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper says people with handgun permits can't carry their weapons into parks or sports fields when they are being used by schools. In an opinion released Monday, Cooper says the state's new law to allow permit holders to bring their guns in city and county parks does not prohibit schools from using those facilities. Since Marshall County commissioners rejected an annual solid waste fee, Waste Management's offer to help continue county recycling services becomes an important topic for the County's Solid Waste Committee. Without county revenue to cover a $221,000 deficit from host fees paid by Cedar Ridge Landfill, the Solid Waste Department will probably eliminate two jobs; One full-time position, and a part time job. ... more

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department joined local, state and federal law enforcement for a month-long fugitive apprehension effort known as FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally.) The falcon soared into Middle Tennessee on June 1 and by the time the operation was over 624 fugitives had been apprehended and 801 warrants cleared.
