With a 4-1 vote Thursday, Chapel Hill's unpaid Board of Mayor and Aldermen established a salary schedule for its members elected Aug. 5 when all town candidates won without challengers. The mayor and the just-elected aldermen will be paid $150 per month starting in September. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is reviewing "potential issues" with regard to activities at Henry Horton State Park, but there have been no dismissals, TDEC's spokeswoman said this week. "We are currently conducting a disciplinary review of some potential issues there, but no employee has left or has been asked to leave," spokeswoman Meg Lockhart said, promising to share the department's information when that review is completed. more
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday, and plans to vote Thursday, to start paying members $150 per month, a salary similar to other town boards. If aldermen don't vote on Thursday to adopt the ordinance that creates their salary and pay rate, then it will be too late for the new law to take effect in time for the recently elected officials who start their terms in September. more

Lewisburg Mayor Barbara Woods has appointed four men to serve with her on a committee to screen applicants who want to be the city's next director of economic and community development. The successful applicant would be hired by City Manager Eddie Fuller, although there has been considerable interest in the abilities of Terry Wallace's successor.
