A Lewisburg man was indicted on charges of aggravated statutory rape at the grand jury's October meeting last week. Joshua David McBurnett, 32, of Ruby Road, received an eight-count indictment. State Rep. Eddie Bass (D-Prospect) was re-elected Tuesday in a close race with former Marshall County Commission Chairman Billy Spivey, the Republican challenger in a three-man race. Bass won with 8,210 over Spivey's total of 7,171, for a margin of 1,039, according to unofficial results. State Sen. Diane Black's 6th District victory Tuesday helped Republicans gain control of Tennessee's congressional delegation for the first time in nearly a decade. With 26 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Black had 43,678 votes, or 67 percent of the vote, to Brett Carter's 18,820, or 29 percent. A guilty verdict was returned after dark Thursday in the trial of a Lewisburg man accused of rape and aggravated kidnapping. Having received a unanimous recommendation to promote Lewisburg's stormwater manager to be the city's industrial recruiter, the outgoing city manager on Thursday promoted a local man who started working for the city as codes enforcement officer. Greg Lowe, 41, was promoted by City Manager Eddie Fuller whose retirement officially begins this afternoon, although he's agreed to be a consultant for the city as officials search for a successor.
