At the last session of Circuit Court for the month of June, a Lewisburg man pleaded guilty to a sex crime and was sentenced to 11 years in prison by Judge Robert Crigler. Mark J. Enjoying a big bang with your own fireworks on the Fourth of July is as American as Mom and apple pie, so it only seemed natural when a couple planning to get married during the holiday weekend went to buy fireworks on Lewisburg's bypass this week. The suspect in the shooting of a Shelbyville woman late Tuesday died at Vanderbilt Wednesday night of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police sources told the Tribune. Thomas Lamonte Williams, 39, of Lewisburg, ran away from a traffic stop in Marshall County a short time after the Shelbyville incident and shot himself while police were searching for him. NASHVILLE -- Marshall County is among 29 Tennessee counties that have been designated where farmers may apply for assistance as a result of severe storms and flooding in April and May. Among debris found in the Duck River during a Marshall County river cleanup a few years ago were two metal café chairs and a table high enough for the chairs. The table was crescent shaped, so it matched the chairs. The assumption was that somebody either had a private party, or was running bar service in the drink, so to speak. Marshall County has signed a contract with Appertain Corporation for the removal of dead livestock. County commissioners voted 15-2 at their Monday meeting to authorize County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett to enter into this agreement. Commissioners had to vote to suspend the rules in order to do this, because the resolution came in too late to be included in the agenda packet... more
