Two longtime archrivals met up at Reese Hambrick Field on Tuesday afternoon in a do or die contest as the Giles County Lady Bobcats and the Marshall County Tigerettes squared off in a District 12-AA Tournament loser’s bracket contest with each team knowing a loss will end their season.

Giles County came out playing small ball, taking a 3-1 lead after two innings before the Tigerettes bats exploded with a nine-run fourth inning that gave MCHS plenty of breathing room in a 14-8 win.

With the win, the Tigerettes advanced to the District 12-AA Tournament loser’s bracket final at Nolensville Wednesday night.

“We got good leadership all year from our seniors,” MCHS coach Baylee Taylor said. “We are playing good and we made good adjustments tonight going from a pitcher who threw hard and inside to a pitcher throwing slower and outside.”

“We are looking forward to playing Nolensville, this will be our fourth time against them and I am expecting better results.”

Ellie Luce had huge game for the Tigerettes on Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Haylee Hobby came off the bench to slam a ball to the fence that drove in two runs and Jahna Meadows blasted a two-run home run.

Taylor Pickle tossed a complete game to pick up the win in the circle.

Pickle gave up 15 hits, but stayed steady and her defense played well behind her in the elimination game.

In the top of the first inning, the Lady Bobcats played small ball with Morgan Sharp and Allie Burleson laying down successful bunts and Hope Murphy legging out a grounder to shortstop to load the bases.

Jada Gardner lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sharp and Burleson came home on Kylie Hendricks’ grounder to shortstop to make it 2-0.

The Tigerettes responded in the bottom of the first as Demiyah Blackman led off with a single to centerfield.

Madison Hery laid down a sacrifice bunt that turned into a hit when the Bobcats could not make the play and Blackman was safe at second and Hery safe at first.

Blackman advance to third base on a wild pitch and came home on a single by to right field by Kaniyah Taylor.

The top of the second saw the Bobcats strike again as Melia Roberts singled and gained second base on a Tigerettes’ error.

Roberts moved to third base on an infield out and then scored on a fielder’s choice to make the score 3-1.

The Bobcats made it 4-1 in the top of the third inning when Hope Murphy got aboard on a Tigerette error and came home to score on a sacrifice fly RBI by Roberts.

The Tigerettes turned a double play on the ball hit by Roberts as Luce made the catch and threw to Taylor at third base, who threw to Hery at second to nab Marie Bodily straying too far off the bag.

The Tigerettes came back in the bottom of the third inning when Blackman singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Hery, and moved to third on a base hit by Luce.

Luce stole second base and both runners came home on a single by Taylor to make the score 4-3.

The Tigerettes got out of the top of the fourth inning by turning another double play on a line drive to Abby McGehee at first base.

The Tigerettes took the lead and essentially put the game away in the home half of the inning.

Pickle led off with a double and Reese Lentz came on as a courtesy runner for Pickle before scoring on an RBI fielder’s choice by Blackman.

Hobby doubled in two more runs, Luce singled in a run and scored on a wild pitch, and Pickle came up for the second time in the inning and singled home two more runs.

“I wasn’t really looking for a certain pitch, she (Pickett) threw me one high and then I hit the next pitch which was waist high,” Hobby said.

“Hayley came in off the bench to hit a double and drive in the go-ahead runs. Everybody knows how hard it is to come in cold, from the bench and contribute,” Taylor said.

Meadows followed with a long drive over the fence and when the dust had settled the Tigerettes had turned a 4-3 deficit into an eight-run lead at 12-4.

“When I hit, I hit line drives,” Meadows said. “That home run felt really good.”

The Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 12-7, but the Tigerettes responded in the bottom of the fifth as Hery singled and scored on a triple by Luce to make it 13-7.

Luce came around to score on a Giles County error as Marshall County took a seven-run lead to the last inning.

The Bobcats tacked on another run in the top of the seventh with one out before Pickle got Fletcher to fly out to center field and Pickett lined out to Tatum Garrett at shortstop to end the game.
