Ross Hunter Brown, age 44, husband of Jessica Brown and a resident of Chapel Hill, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at his residence, following a short, yet valiant, battle with cancer.

A memorial service to celebrate Ross’s life will be held on Thursday, May 6th at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Tom McCoy officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from noon until the 4 p.m. service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ross was born on March 3, 1977 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and was the son of Stephen Hunter Brown and Debbie Phelps. He was a 1995 graduate of Marshall County High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2000. He married the love of his life, Jessica Tant, on May 14, 2005 and together they had two children, Josie and Reid. Ross worked at Power Equipment Company for 17 years, and he loved his job and his co-workers. Never turning ESPN off their television at home, he was a true sports enthusiast who enjoyed all sports, especially when cheering on the Tennessee Titans and the Irish of Notre Dame. Above all, Ross loved cheering on Josie and Reid in the numerous sports they played. He was adored by his family and all his friends, new and old alike.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Jessica Tant Brown of Chapel Hill; children, Josie Faith Brown and Reid Hunter Brown; mother, Debbie (Dr. Kenneth) Phelps of Lewisburg; father, Stephen Brown of Crossville; siblings, Leah (Michael) Cook of Pottsville, Kate (Knowles) Atchison of MD, Alex Phelps of Lewisburg, Ken Phelps of Nashville, Robbie (Stephanie) Baxter of Mount Pleasant, Natalie (Jim) Lazarowicz of Lewisburg, Patrick Brown of MS, and Stephanie (Bruce) Allsup of MS; sister and brother in law, Amanda and Davis Musgrave of Chapel Hill; father in law, Joe (Misti) Tant, Jr. of Lewisburg; mother in law, Beth Tant of Chapel Hill; grandmother in law, Margaret “Gran” Edwards of Chapel Hill; grandfather in law, Joe D. Tant, Sr. of White Bluff; and several nieces and nephews whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lindsay and Thelma Brown and Grace Spray; and his best friend, Grant Grogan.

Pallbearers will be Kris Blalock, Wes Foss, Scott Hammerling, Stephen Hay, Rory Mallard, Eric Michael, Davis Musgrave, Nathan Orange, Wes Roberts, and Dominic Wekony.
