Mt. PLEASANT — After a slow start in Monday afternoon’s season opener at Mt. Pleasant, the Forrest Rockets got the offensive wheels turning in the final three innings and beat the Tigers, 14-0.
After two scoreless innings, Forrest plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning and closed the game with six runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
As a team, the Rockets piled up eight hits against the Tigers, with Riley Durbin’s two-hit night leading the way.
Austin Lampley added a double for the Rockets, while Camden Vaughn and Durbin each tripled.
Vaughn and Durbin combined for seven RBIs in the opening victory.
On the mound, Preston Gentry went the distance for the Rockets and pitched all five innings, recording five strikeouts and allowing just four hits and one walk.
Forrest goes for the series sweep this evening in the home opener at 6:30 p.m.
