Mulliniks headed to state, Rockets’ season ends

CHAPEL HILL — Cornersville’ Annabelle Mulliniks finished third-place overall in the Region 5-A match and qualified for the upcoming state tournament, which will be held in Sevierville at the Sevierville Golf Club.
Summertown led the way in the match and took first-place as a team, as well as featuring the top two individual finishers as well.
Karlie Campbell shot a 37 to win medalist honors, while Lanie Campbell finished four strokes back at 77 to take second-place. 
Mulliniks finished third in the individual standings and led the Lady Bulldogs to a third-place team finish as well.
She shot a 44 on the front nine and carded a 41 after making the turn to finish the day with an 85. 
Braylin Powers shot a 46 on her front nine and finished the day with a 101, while Jayli Childress turned in a 109 final score.
Maggie Browning was the lone Lady Rocket to compete in the region match and finished her day with a 97.
She shot a 47 on the front nine and finished her day with a 50 on the back nine.
On the boys side of the match, the Forrest Rockets just missed out on a trip to the state tournament and finished third overall.
Summertown won the team competition with a combined 323, while Hickman County shot a combined 361. The Rockets finished with a 370 team score, edging out fourth-place finisher Giles County by seven strokes.
Forrest was led by Noah Brown’s team-low 85. He shot a 42 on the front nine and finished with a 43 after making the turn.
Sebastian Thompson finished two strokes back at 87 and shot a 43 front nine and finished with a 44.
Kelton Grubbs and Trey Williamson finished with a 49 and 57, respectively. 
Two-time defending state champion Evan Woosley-Reed, of Cascade, won the match, shooting a 67. 
The state tournament will be held from October 7-8.
