The Forrest Rockets had their backs up against the wall after losing a 4-2 rain-shortened game at home versus Community in the first round of the District 12-AA Tournament on Thursday night, facing elimination on Saturday versus Murfreesboro Central Magnet School.

Forrest answered the call behind some solid pitching from Kain Moses, Cannon Cervantes, and Max Kirby that limited the Tigers to two runs (zero earned) on just three hits with Moses picking up the win, Cervantes the hold, and Kirby earned the save.

Moses and Cervantes both struck out five MCM batters.

Kirby also jacked a three-run home run in the top of the third inning to give Forrest a lead they did not surrender and Moses added some punch with a solo home run in the fourth inning to pad the lead to 4-2.

Andrew Timmons knocked in Forrest’s final run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.

Moses left the game after three innings and Cervantes pitched in to the seventh inning, ending his stint on the hill after the Rockets turned a pretty 3-6-3 double play.

Kirby came on and hit the next batter before rearing back for a game-ending strikeout to keep the Rockets alive.

Cervantes, Kirby, Braden Bowyer, Moses, Timmons, and Justin Gillespie all had one hit in the game for Forrest.

The Tigers’ scored their only two runs when they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third inning, followed by a Forrest infield error.
