The Forrest Lady Rockets travelled to Nolensville Friday night and took a beating as the experienced and talented Lady Knights took an easy 70-49 win.

“They (Nolensville) are a really good team,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “They have good size, good shooters, and a good post presence.”

Nolensville’s had four players in double figures, led by two-time District 12-AA regular season MVP Grace Baird with 21 points, all coming from three-point land.

Zoe Piller scored 17, Parker Leftwich had 15, Caymin Ladd 11 with three 3-pointers, and Sydney Mickulin rounded out the Lady Knights in the scoring column with six points.

Ally Blanton led Forrest with 13 points, Carissa Curtis had 12, Laura Mealer netted 11, Jaide Langley added five, Ryann Lewis had four, Addison Bunty had one 3-pointer, and Megan Mealer had one made free throw.

The Lady Knights jumped out to an 18-2 lead and never looked back, leading by 15 at the end of the first quarter and 13 at the half.

“They came out and punched us in the face from the tip,” Jean said. “Our margin for error is slim against anyone, but especially against Nolensville.”

“After the initial punch, we settled down and played with them, cutting the lead to 12 with the ball.”

Nolensville, the back-to-back District 12-AA champions, poured it on in the third quarter, outscoring Forrest 20-10 to take a huge 55-32 lead to the fourth period.

“We have to convert on the offensive end when we get easy buckets, and we didn't Friday night,” Jean said. “If we convert and guard the arc better, we have a chance.”

All the subs played in the fourth quarter, except Leftwich who stayed in and scored nine points to move pass the 1,000 point mark for her career at home.

Forrest bounced back on Saturday, defeating Lawrence County in a close 58-49 win.

Carissa Curtis, who eclipsed the career 1,000 point barrier at Sycamore on January 10th, led Forrest in the scoring column with 21 points.

“It was important to get that one against Lawrence County, not only because we had dropped a couple in a row, but because they are really good team,” Jean said.

“When you play four games in a week, you expect there to be some fatigue in that last game, but I didn't see any Saturday night.”

Curtis nailed five 3-pointers and went a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

Jaide Langley scored 18 points, including a pair of treys, and Ally Blanton added 10 and two 3-pointers.

Laura Mealer scored five and Ryann Lewis and Shea Lewis both had a deuce.

“I actually think playing so many games last week helped us Saturday,” Jean said. “I feel like we were more deliberate on both ends of the floor. We were more focused, not just relying on ability to create.”

Forrest had a chance to make up some ground in the District 12-AA standings with home games this week versus Giles County (Tuesday) and Murfreesboro Central Magnet School (Friday).

“We just have to focus on the next game ahead of us, we have to execute on both ends, and start rolling here before the (District 12-AA) tournament starts,” Jean said. “Starting to put complete games together is what I am focused on the next few weeks. If we do that, the wins will take care of themselves.”
