The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (7-11, 1-6) wrap up their District 9-A schedule along with honoring this year’s Seniors in-between games on Tuesday night by welcoming the Moore County Raiderettes (17-8, 5-2).
The Lady Bulldogs were looking to avoid a series sweep having lost handily at Moore County back on January 21, but Moore County kept the Lady Bulldogs at arm’s length and came away with a 52-34 victory.
Freshman Ady Gentry coming in off the bench led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points.
Cloe Brazier with 16 points and Olivia Richards with 12 points led Moore County.
Moore County jumped out to an 8-0 lead with their first basket being a 3-pointer from Richards.
Cornersville’s Annabelle Mulliniks sank two free-throws to put Cornersville on the board trailing, 8-2.
Brazier worked inside, scoring two baskets and Ellie Graham swished a jumper to stretch the Raiderette lead to 12 points, 14-2 with 3:18 to go in the first quarter.
Brazier continued to work inside for a basket before Alicia Polk scored on a jumper and Gentry made two free-throws to make the score 16-6 by the end of the first quarter.
Richards made a basket to start the second quarter before Cornersville made a seven-point run on a 3-pointer by Grayson Riner, and two buckets by Gentry to cut the Raiderette lead to five points, 18-13.
Moore County answered with the Fletcher sisters, Macy and Katy sinking baskets to put the Raiderettes back up 22-13, a score that would hold up until the halftime horn sounded.
Cornersville opened the third quarter with baskets by Polk and Anna Wood to cut into the Moore County lead 24-17.
Brazier continued to work down low score six-straight points as the Lady Bulldogs drew close, but Moore County would respond to keep the lead just out of reach, now leading 30-17.
Gentry would strurck with an old fashion 3-pointer, a basket and a free-throw for Cornersville, but Richard hit a basket at the buzzer to end the third quarter with the Raiderettes leading 32-20.
Riner for Cornersville drilled a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter to cut into the Raiderette lead, 32-23.
Jayli Childress scored for Cornersville on a nice drive made the score 34-25 with 5:59 left in the game.
Richards scored again and Gentry matched it, but a 3-pointer by Moore County’s Erica Clifton put the icing on the cake and the Raiderettes held on the rest of the way for the 52-34 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Culleoka Friday night to finish off the regular season and begin preparations for the District 9-A tournament to be played in Lynchburg.
