The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs finished off the regular season in style Monday night as they beat the Culleoka Lady Warriors 9-3 at Frog Bottom in a non-district contest.

The Lady Bulldogs’ (14-11) blistered Culleoka pitching for 14 hits and nine runs and got solid pitching from Jayli Childress, who gave up three runs on five hits while striking out five in a complete game victory.

Anna Wood went 4-for-4, including a home run and three RBI’s, Aleia Childress went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Abbie Woodard blasted an inside the park, three-run homer to pace the Lady Bulldogs.

Culleoka struck first in the top of the third inning as Tyler Reischman led off with a single and Karly Skinner followed with a home run to center field and the Lady Warriors led 2-0.

The Lady Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third inning as Mariah Harris led off with a single, Alisha Price got aboard via a bunt, and Wood slugged a three-run home run to put Cornersville in the lead 3-2.

Cornersville picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on singles by Aleia Childress, Wood, and Jayli Childress that pushed the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to 4-2.

The Lady Bulldogs tacked on a another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Carmen Ward singled and came home on a booming double by Aleia Childress that extended the Cornersville lead to 5-2.

Jayli Childress continued to keep the Culleoka bats cool and the Lady Bulldogs effectively sealed the game in the bottom of the sixth as Wood singled for her fourth hit and advanced to third on an error.

Wood was cut down at the plate on a fielder’s choice on a ball hit by Jayli Childress and Childress was forced at second on a grounder by Molly Wells.

Lexie Warren pinch ran for Wells and with two outs, Aleia Childress singled to center and Abbie Woodard then drove a ball over the head of the Culleoka center fielder as Warren and Childress scored with Woodard close behind for an inside the park home run.

The home run sealed the deal as Jayli Childress gave up a run in the top of the seventh, but her infield defense shut down the Lady Warriors for a 9-3 win for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Dawgs have three seniors in Abbie Woodard, Lexi Warren, and Aleia Childress and these three players do what seniors do.

They are respected leaders and they lead by example and perform on the field.

Aleia Childress is the foundation in the infield at first base as well as on the mound.

Warren comes off the bench in any role she is asked to do, pinch run, pinch hit or for defense in the field.

Woodard anchors the outfield with dependable play and timely hitting at the plate.

The Lady Bulldogs also have plenty of underclassmen that contribute every game.

Anna Wood, after an injury to Alicia Polk, moved from her catcher’s position to shortstop and continues to hit the ball.

Hannah Moore has performed well behind the plate as Wood’s replacement.

Molly Wells, despite her youth has manned the hot corner at third.

Alisha Price, Carmen Ward, and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs await the District 8-A Tournament opener at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Cornersville against the Lady Champions.
