The finale of Tuesday night’s double header pitted the Nolensville Knights versus the Marshall County Tigers in an important District 12-AA matchup at Lewisburg.

The Tigers, looking to move into a second place tie with the Knights in the district, could not overcome some cold shooting and fell 55-33.

“They did a good job of taking us out of things we do well,” MCHS coach Lavon King said. “We’ve got to be patient and pass the ball more to get good shots.”

The Tigers were led in the scoring column by Caneilus Turner and Devonte Davis, scoring 11 points apiece.

The Tigers controlled the tip and 3-pointers by Turner and Davis got Marshall County going early.

The Knights were led by Riley Byron and Darin Watkins with six points each to lead 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Nolensville went on a 4-1 run to open the second quarter and the Tigers could not get the ball to go in the hoop.

The halftime score was 24-14 in favor of the Nolensville with Kedren Batey scoring six points to lead the way for the Knights in the second quarter.

The third quarter saw the Knights open with a 9-1 run to lengthen their lead with the Tigers hustling and striving to catch up.

Turner drained one from downtown to cut the lead to 34-27, but Watkins drove down the right side to lay the ball in as the buzzer sounded to end the third quarter, making the score 36-27.

The fourth quarter saw the Knights extend the lead as the Tigers’ shots still refused to drop.

Byron swished a 3-pointer for Nolensville and at the 5:18 mark of the fourth period, the Knights picked up their seventh team foul and MCHS was in the one-and-one bonus at the foul line.

The Tigers would not benefit as the Knights did not foul again.

“I thought our defense did a good job and not let their players go off shooting the 3-pointers,” King said. “They like to do that.”

The Tigers face the Knights on Valentine’s Day for the regular season finale.

The Tigers (7-10, 2-3) head to sixth-ranked Community (22-1, 5-0) Friday night for another District 12-AA battle and the Knights (9-11, 4-1) travel to Pulaski to take on Giles County (4-9, 2-3).
