Jim Byrd

Mr. Jim Byrd, 66, of Chapel Hill, TN, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at his home in Chapel Hill. He was born in Indianapolis, IN and was a son of the late James Delmus and Nancy Mills Byrd.

Mr. Byrd and his family, moved to Chapel Hill from Ladoga, IN in 1997 with Saturn Corp. Division of General Motors. He retired in January of 2020 after 32 years of service as an electrician with General Motors Corp.

While in Indiana, he was the former owner of Byrd Electric and served as the Fire Chief of the Ladoga Fire Department. After moving to Chapel Hill, he continued his commitment to help others and joined the Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for many years, as an assistant chief. When Mr. Byrd retired as a fireman, he had a total of 30 years of service between the two departments.

Mr. Byrd also coached many youth softball, baseball and basketball teams over many years in both Ladoga and Chapel Hill.

He was an active member of Central Christian Church in Columbia, TN.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sherri Byrd, Chapel Hill, TN; children, Michelle (Brian) Haislip, Bokchito, OK, James Michael (Bobbi) Byrd, Thermopolis, WY, Matthew (Jennifer) Byrd, Lewisburg, TN; sisters, Becky (Marvin) Walters, Ladoga, IN, Katy (Dale) Fairfield, Darlington IN; brother, David (Mindy) Byrd, Linden, IN; grandchildren, Aiden Haislip, Cole Haislip, Killian Byrd and McKinley Allen.

The funeral service took place at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at the Ladoga Fire Station, 1025 East Main Street, Ladoga, IN 47954, with Pastor Tracy Cameron officiating. Burial followed in Ladoga Cemetery. Friends were invited to gather for visitation, 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at the Ladoga Fire Station.

In lieu of flowers, the Byrd family asks that Memorial Contributions be made to the Ladoga Fire Department.
