Funeral services for James Lester Kimbrell Jr., age 75, of Lewisburg will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Rob McKamey officiating. Burial will follow at Simpson Cemetery in the Rover Community. Mr. Kimbrell passed from this life Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Vanderbilt-Bedford Hospital.
Visitation will be held prior to funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at the funeral home.
James was born November 5, 1945, in Screven, Georgia to the late James, Sr. and Dolly Kimbrell and is preceded in death by; brother, Robert Kimbrell, Sr., and grandson, Matthew Leftrick.
He retired as a truck driver after 40+ years, having worked with Charlie Baucom and Kimbrell Farms. He was a savvy outdoorsman; anything from fishing to trapping, he always loved experiencing the good Lord’s work. He enjoyed planting a very large garden every year and in his retirement he took on many projects; fixing old cars and trucks was his favorite; especially working on his red 1963 Chevy Impala. He served proudly in the Army National Guard of Georgia for six years and was a faithful member of the North Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include: loving wife, Ruth Ann Gentry Kimbrell of Lewisburg; children, James L. Kimbrell, III of Lewisburg, Abby (Wade) Johnson of GA, Renee Lamb of Shelbyville, Lewis (Pam) Phelps of Lewisburg; brother, Ronnie (Renee) Kimbrell of Shelbyville; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren with one on the way; along with several nieces and nephews.
