The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (0-13, 0-5) welcomed District 8-A foe Huntland in the opening game of Tuesday night’s doubleheader at the Cornersville gymnasium.
The Lady Hornets, with their senior laden squad and a suffocating full-court press, easily defeated the Lady Dawgs 79-31 for their fifth win in a row.
Once again, The Lady Bulldogs with their youth and inexperience struggled against a pressure defense that cause turnovers and as a result found themselves in a hole that only got deeper.

“It was a rough game, turnovers do not give us a chance to be in the game,” Cornersville coach Martha Jane McMasters said. “They made us play their game and with five seniors that makes it hard to compete against.”
“Also, they shot the lights out, hitting 24-of-28 baskets when the horn sounded for halftime.”
Cornersville played without freshman Gracie Turner, whose tough play inside was sorely missed.
Alicia Polk, playing her usual aggressive and competitive game, scored 12 points to lead the team.
The Lady Bulldogs struggled with the Huntland press every possession, having a stream of turnovers that resulted in a 16-point deficit at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was even harder on Cornersville as the Lady Hornets stung the young Lady Bulldogs and led at the break, 57-17.
The second half saw Huntland pull back the press and the half-court offense of the Dawgs fared better, but turnovers dogged their effort and at the end of three quarters the Lady Hornets led 70-28.
Huntland substituted all through the game and as a result 13 of the 15 players on the team scored with Anna Stevenson leading the way with 13 points as the Lady Hornets stayed one game behind District 8-A leader Eagleville.
The Lady Hornets’ (9-4, 5-1) last loss was to the Lady Eagles (7-10, 5-1), who won 52-51 on January 12 at Eagleville.
The fourth quarter saw both coaches using the younger players and when the horned sounded the Lady Hornets had themselves a 79-31 victory over the still winless Lady Dawgs.
“For our part, we will come in tomorrow and get ready to play Cascade Friday night,” McMasters said.
