The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs travelled down Highway 31A to Pulaski Tuesday afternoon for an early season game against traditional foe Bridgeforth.

The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead then fought off two rallies by the Lady Bobcats in the sixth and seventh innings to secure a 13-8 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs started fast as Hanna Moore led off the game with a base hit to center field.

Moore promptly stole second base and after Molly Wells drew a walk, Gracie Clark laced a double to left field to score both runners and the Lady Bulldogs led 2-0.

Kaylee Denihan drove in Clark with a single and took second base on the throw home before Alex Cardin promptly singled in Denihan for a 4-0 Cornersville lead.

The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the second inning as Wells walked and went to third on a base hit by Clark, and came home on a sacrifice fly by Allie Pigg to make the score 5-0.

The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the fourth when Kinsley Morris laced a double to left field to score Chloe Norwood, who had singled moved to second on a hit by Karson Brown to make the score 5-1.

Cornersville responded in the top of the fifth inning as Cardin singled to right center field and moved to second on a nicely laid down sacrifice bunt by Kaylee Gooch.

Ady Gentry singled in Cardin and Moore, and after Gentry had stolen second base, Pigg brought her home with a resounding double to left field and the Lady Bulldogs lead 7-1

Then in the bottom of the sixth inning things began to get interesting.

The Lady Bobcats, after two outs, took advantage of Wells, who suddenly could not throw a strike.

Three walks and an infield error brought home a run.

Wells was relieved by Clark, who came in with the bases loaded and found the strike zone just as elusive as Wells had done.

Three more runs came home without the benefit of a hit and the score was now 7-5 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Bulldogs came out growling as Pigg doubled to center field.

Cardin slapped a base hit to left and Gooch plated them both with a single, taking second on the throw home to make the score 9-5.

Two misplays by the Lady Bobcats in the outfield after Cornersville had loaded the bases brought home two more runs and hits by Pigg and Cardin delivered two more.

When the dust had settled Cornersville had scored six times to lead 13-5.

Zoey Blackwell came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh and found the strike zone, but the Lady Bobcats had zeroed in on it and the Bridgeforth batters began to slap the ball around the field and three runs scored before Wells was called on to pitch her second stint in the game.

Wells shut down the Lady Bobcats to preserve the 13-8 victory for the Lady Bulldogs as the Cornersville faithful breathed a sigh of relief.

This team of Lady Bulldogs are a talented bunch of young ladies, they possess a fire-balling pitcher in Wells, a long and lean scrappy catcher in Gentry, and steady infielders backed by sure handed out fielders.

This bunch will do well.

Cornersville faces Columbia Academy at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
