LEWISBURG — It was an all-out brawl on the mat between county rivals Cornersville and Marshall County on Tuesday night.
Both teams recorded several key wins, but in the end, it was the Bulldogs edging out the Tigers for the 30-27 win.
There were plenty of body blows in Tuesday night’s match.
Julius Foster outlasted Cornersville’s Joshua Bennett in the 113-pound weight class and earned a pin in the third period.
After a forfeit at 120 for the Tigers, it was Cornersville who struck back with Austin King at 132, who pinned Marshall County’s Carson Henderson in the first period.
The Bulldogs piled up wins via forfeit at 138 and 145, but at the 152-pound weight class, Aaron Powell outlasted Cornersville’s Joseph Cole in a 4-3 decision.
The Tigers made things even more interesting with a hard-fought pin by Anthony Chaves, who defeated Jonathan Zuniga, in the third period at the 160-pound class.
In the end, it was Xavier Viazcan who pinned Marshall County’s Anthony Smith in the first period that proved to be the key victory in landing the Bulldogs a win.
The Tigers will be on the road on Thursday night, traveling to Community, while Cornersville will travel to Fairview.
