Alice Leonard Higgins, 74, of Soddy Daisy, TN, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, suddenly at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Leonard and her brother, John C. Leonard Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Higgins; brother, Thomas L. Leonard and one sister, Gene Douglas Leonard Parsons, both of Lewisburg; nieces, Larissa Delk, Madelynn Beech, Meredith Hyjek, Alice Halstead, Evelyn Metcalf and Elizabeth Bailey Land; and two nephews, John C. Leonard III and Russell Lee Leonard.

She was a graduate of Marshall County High School, George Peabody College with a Master’s Degree in business education. She taught school at UT night school and Maplewood High School before moving to Naples, FL, where Dennis was a land appraiser for the federal government and Alice owned two dress shops. Later in life, they moved to Soddy Daisy, TN, where she remained until her death.

Alice was an outstanding high school basketball player and as a senior, was named to the All State Team as a forward. She also set the single game scoring record for MCHS. She and Dennis traveled extensively, and loved to share their exploits with family and friends. All who knew her enjoyed her wit and wisdom.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Lone Oak Cemetery.
